Feds Upgrade App that Helps Nab Child Predators

The app allows users to receive alerts about wanted predators; share the information with friends; allow submission of online tips; and view news about arrests and prosecutions of predators.

The federal Homeland Security Investigations unit is making a smartphone application available that will enable the public to help identify and locate suspected child predators.

The application will be available for both Apple and Android systems. Homeland Security launched the first Operation Predator app in September 2013. A spokesman said the newest versions are expected to significantly increase public outreach to locate predators and rescue victims.

Earlier this year, a fugitive child sex predator from Delano whose case was featured on the app was located and captured in Mexicali, Mexico, after Homeland Security received an anonymous tip, the spokesman said. David Michael Wilson, 31, was arrested April 2. He pleaded guilty in August to one count of receiving or distributing child pornography and faces sentencing Dec. 1.

The app allows users to receive alerts about wanted predators; share the information with friends; allow submission of online tips; and view news about arrests and prosecutions of predators.
