GSA Awards WEX Inc. Schedule 70 Contract for Vehicle Fleet Tracking, Managing

The Portland, Ore., firm wants to track and manage the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's vehicle fleet.

(TNS) -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has added the South Portland-based WEX Inc. to a list of approved information technology vendors, allowing the company to try and sell national defense managers equipment and services to track the agency’s fleet.

The company announced on Wednesday it was awarded a Schedule 70 contract from the Government Services Administration, which qualifies the company as a vendor for the Department of Homeland Security.

The company said the department has a fleet of about 52,000 vehicles, which senior vice president Bernie Kavanagh said WEX wants “to [arm] with WEX technology to provide their fleet managers access to data-driven insights to help them manage the daily operations of their fleet.”

The company plans to offer the department its telematics service, which “tracks the location and performance of your drivers and vehicles in near real-time, 24 hours a day and points out where you can increase fleet efficiency and reduce fuel waste,” according to its website.
