Jeff Stovall and Dennis John will be both be joining Oracle as directors of strategy and development for state and local applications, according to a spokesperson for the company. Stovall served as CIO of Charlotte, N.C., for about a decade, while John worked as CIO for 17 years in Arlington, Texas, as well as Milwaukee County and Racine, Wis.
The company’s footprint in government has always been wide, but it was perhaps best known in the sector for database and ERP software — until the end of 2018, when it hired former Northern California city technology leader Peter Pirnejad and launched its Community Development Solution. That brought Oracle into the licensing, permitting and land use arena, an area occupied by well-established companies such as Accela and Tyler Technologies.
Stovall was a recipient of Government Technology’s Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers award in 2018 for his commitment to cybersecurity, innovation and operational efficiency at the city of Charlotte.
