Following its plan to build out a community engagement platform through partnerships with adjacent technologies, the gov tech startup Bang the Table announced today that its latest featured partner will be messaging service provider MessageMedia.

The new partnership will integrate MessageMedia’s SMS with Bang the Table’s EngagementHQ software platform, giving government customers a way to gather input or communicate with citizens through its software via two-way text messaging, according to a news release. For public-sector clients, EngagementHQ’s feedback tools will be embedded directly into SMS text messages, gathering data directly from the text responses of participants. According to the news release, more than 570 organizations worldwide use EngagementHQ.

“SMS allows clients to easily expand the reach of their engagement and is a great way to get contributions from those who may not have easy access to the Internet or who are too pushed for time to visit the site,” said Bang the Table CEO Matt Crozier in a statement. “It will increase contributions and allow targeting of specific groups by clients who have access to mobile phone numbers. This should make EngagementHQ more accessible to underrepresented groups.”

Also based in Australia, MessageMedia counts more than 50,000 customers worldwide. It marks the fifth in a growing stable of partnerships for Bang the Table, which was founded in 2007 but set up a U.S. headquarters in Boulder, Colo., four years ago. When Bang the Table announced its first partnership and integration with Balancing Act’s budgeting software last September, Crozier told Government Technology there would be many more to come.

“We’re spending a bit of time looking around the world and finding the absolute best solutions for different aspects of community engagement,” Crozier said at the time. “We feel EngagementHQ is the best platform for overall community engagement, but where there’s some aspect of community engagement where others are focusing and doing better, we intend to bring those into our ecosystem, into our marketplace and make them available to our clients.”

Following its partnership with Balancing Act in September 2019, Bang the Table has announced other partnerships with Granicus for public outreach tools, with Konveio for drafting and publishing public documents, and with user-authentication platform Auth0.
