Arguably the second change to the face of the company in the past six months, following its rebranding last October, Calytera’s new CEO is Zeynep Young, a veteran administrator of gov tech companies and foundations. She’s replacing Erin Mulligan Nelson, who is now the CEO of Social Solutions, an Austin-based software company that serves nonprofit and government organizations.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Zeynep has been a venture partner at Next Coast Ventures; a founder and CEO of two companies in Austin, including a business-strategy company called Data Narrative and the education-technology company Double Line; the portfolio director of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, a philanthropic organization where she focused on education and health for impoverished urban children; and an associate principal at the consulting firm McKinsey & Co.
“I’m inspired by Calytera’s purpose,” Zeynep said in a statement. “I’ve spent many years in the gov tech sector, working to improve educational and health outcomes. I believe helping governments better serve their communities and improve citizens’ lives is a powerful way to do good. The current challenges and pain of the pandemic underscore that that local, state and provincial governments are vital to their communities and it’s an honor to help support them.”
In Calytera’s news release, Zeynep touched on the immediate needs of the company during the COVID-19 crisis, like balancing employee safety with customer support. She said Calytera will give customers free access to new modules that support COVID-19 related uses, but in the long term, “nothing in our purpose or mission changes.”
Founded in 1989, the company formerly known as CSDC sells the Amanda platform to help the public sector automate or manage critical aspects of business. Amanda handles more than 50 regulatory functions across departments including land and building management, public health, permitting, inspections, compliance, licensing and freedom of information requests. The company rebranded itself Calytera, from the Greek word “kalytera” meaning “better,” in coordination with its 30th year in business.
