GCOM Acquires ASR for AI, Tax Analytics and Student Software

The buyout of the 17-year-old company ASR Analytics will also give GCOM, which offers state and local governments a wide variety of software and solutions, a foothold with federal government agencies.

GCOM, a software company selling a wide range of solutions to state and local government, has acquired an AI firm to expand into tax analytics, student success and federal work.

The company, ASR Analytics, was founded in 2004 and is known for its RevHub tax platform. Government agencies use RevHub to dig up tax fraud leads, manage cases, conduct audits and find opportunities to increase revenue, among other things. It also offers a social media scanning component to gather information on taxpayers in support of investigations.

GCOM hopes to use ASR’s AI technology in its various other products, which include — to name a few — supplemental nutrition benefit management, vital records, criminal history records and payments.

“The unprecedented events of the past two years have highlighted how critical emerging technologies are to the delivery of government services,” said GCOM CEO Kamal Bherwani in a press release. “By joining forces with ASR, we’re doubling down on our advanced analytics capabilities and helping our customers better predict and respond to the needs of their constituencies.”

Aside from tax analytics, the acquisition will expand GCOM’s footprint into the federal government, as well as student success software. ASR also works with commercial and health-care clients.

ASR will retain its management team, as well as its offices in Washington, D.C., and Phoenix, Ariz., according to the statement.
