Maryland-based Zyter, which sells a variety of software-as-a-service and Internet of Things technology, has teamed up with Israel-based Juganu to deploy smart lighting for cities and other places.

Zyter said it will leverage “Juganu’s smart lighting solutions and network connectivity framework on future smart campus and smart city implementations worldwide,” according to a statement from the U.S. firm.

Zyter has focused on health care, construction and smart factories, according to information on its website, and the company offers remote monitoring of patients via its ZyterHome offering. This new deal comes as smart city and related IoT tools continue to gain popularity — in fact, infrastructure legislation under consideration at the federal level could provide more funding for those efforts.

“Zyter continues to build partnerships with innovative companies like Juganu that extend and enhance the capabilities of our IoT platform and SmartSpaces solutions,” said Sanjay Govil, founder and CEO of Zyter, in a statement. “Smart lighting is important because it provides a fast and economical way for cities and businesses to become smarter and greener.”

More specifically, this new partnership will combine Zyter’s SmartSpaces platform with Juganu’s platform for connected lighting, including sensors that, according to the statement, “provide a bird’s-eye view of what’s happening in a city.” The network will enable cities to provide public Wi-Fi, automated emergency alerts and other features, with everything controlled via a single dashboard or smartphone.

Zyter said its SmartSpaces platform is a foundational part of the Qualcomm Smart Cities Accelerator Program, which reportedly has some 400 members.

According to Qualcomm, the program members “offer a comprehensive suite of services and Qualcomm Technologies-based solutions that address a wide range of smart city needs. By working with proven expertise and deployed solutions, cities, municipalities, government agencies and enterprises can accelerate the realization of their vision.”

The Juganu technology involved in this partnership includes communication that uses AI edge computing, according to the Zyter statement. The lighting fixtures, meanwhile, are integrated with what Zyter called a full suite of sensors designed to power smart city operations.

“By partnering with Zyter, we can streamline the smart city development process,” said Eran Ben-Shmuel, CEO at Juganu, in the statement. “This partnership helps ensure we can deliver more comprehensive smart city solutions, with a faster lead time to achieve a better result for our end customers, cities and communities.”
