Code for America to Host Second Virtual Summit Panel

After the nation’s leading civic tech group cancelled its annual summit in March, organizers have started to host digital programming, with the second event now slated to take place this week.

Code for America, the nation’s leading nonprofit and nonpartisan civic tech organization, will host another online event this week with a virtual panel entitled "Delivering a Human-Centered Social Safety Net In a Time of Crisis."

The virtual event will focus on how government agencies — almost uniformly facing down unprecedented challenges due to the global outbreak of COVID-19 — are right now working to modernize the social safety net. Speakers for the virtual event include Robert Thompson of the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Tracey Patterson of Code for America, Jennifer Wagner of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, and Leo Ribas of Change and Innovation Agency.

The event is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET on Thursday, April 23. Interested parties can register for the programming online.

The group will cover a wide range of related topics, including how teams within government are working to help benefit recipients, how they are also working to empower staffers on the front lines, how Code for America’s real-time SNAP app offers data useful for policy decisions and how valuable partnerships can best serve government.

This marks the second recent online event hosted by Code for America, which was forced to cancel its annual summit in March shortly after the full impact of the virus began to affect life in the United States. The first event that the group hosted was also timely, bearing the title "Successful Remote and Distributed Work in Uncertain Times." As the name implies, that event involved guiding participants through a new reality of conducting business almost entirely at home amid shelter in place orders.

These will also not be the last events that the group will host in the near future, with an updated list of forthcoming programming available online here.
