Metropia Inc. is a group of innovators that focus on the creation of traffic congestion management platforms. The launch of their new online pairing service has been released as a helping hand to the victims of Hurricane Harvey who may have lost their vehicles in the floodwaters of the storm.

With post-Harvey life underway, people are struggling to get back into their routines as schools, offices and businesses re-open. There were an estimated half a million destroyed vehicles, and Houstonians will most likely be looking for ongoing commutes until they’re back on their feet.

The Arizona-based company was recognized as one of the leading government-focused companies in the 2016 GovTech 100 list, which was compiled as a cooperative effort between Government Technology and e.Republic Labs – a sister organization focused on civic innovation and new market entrants.

Houstonians who need a ride, or someone who’s willing to become a driver, start by signing up at houston-riding.metropia.com. After signing up, users enter their starting location, departure time and end destination into the website. They will have the option to choose between a one-way trip or a round-trip carpool.

Metropia’s algorithms will match users with nearby drivers and passengers who also have a common end destination and travel time, so carpooling will become less daunting. Pairs will be introduced over a starter email for a simple exchange of information.

However, no one will be forced to carpool with someone they’re not comfortable with, or at all. Once you’ve been paired, the driver and passenger will be given the name and email of their potential carpool match that was provided during their signup. After the exchange, pairs can start conversations and share as much information as they’re willing to get comfortable with one another. For those uncomfortable about sensitive information, like their address, getting out to strangers, they have the option to choose a neutral pick-up location.

“There are many outstanding programs established in the wake of Hurricane Harvey to help Houstonians get back on their feet, but our city’s recovery will still very much rely on the generosity of Houstonians in helping one other,” Dr. Yi-Chang Chiu, Founder of Metropia Inc. told Markets Insider. “This is a unique opportunity for Houstonians to lend a helping hand to their neighbors and show the heart that our great city is known for. If you have an extra seat available in your car, we encourage you to sign up at houston-riding-metropia.com and share a ride with someone in need.”
