Philadelphia has added a new face to its tech team: Mjumbe Poe, former Code for America fellow, will serve as the city’s first digital government service architect.

On April 13, Chief Innovation Officer Adel Ebeid announced on Twitter the addition of Poe to the city’s tech efforts.

Big welcome to @mjumbewu Mjumbe Poe for joining the #PhillyOIT team. 1st Digital Gov Service Architect helping us digitize city gov services — Adel Ebeid (@adelebeid) April 13, 2015
Poe joins Aaron Ogle, the city’s civic technology director and also a Code For America fellow in 2011, as a software developer from OpenPlans, a nonprofit that develops free, open source mapping and planning software for city planners and civic tech communities. Poe is also known for his work developing tools at the University of Pennsylvania that model social phenomena, and building tools as director of software firm Kwa Watu that help people make better use of their environments.

In 2010, Poe wrote in a Code for America blog post that technology alone isn’t enough to change government – people need to make the changes happen.
Poe joins Philadelphia alongside several others who also hail from the civic tech scene, including Chief Data Officer Tim Wisniewski, Data Services Manager Stacey Mosley and Data Scientist Lauren Ancona.
