The Sacramento Municipal Utility District relies on a high-capacity network and creative services to provide reliable energy to its residents.
The Sacramento Municipal Utility District, known as SMUD, is a power generator and distributor for its 650,000 customers in the Sacramento County area. On this episode of The Districts, CIO Stephen Clemons talks about how technology permeates much of the utility’s operations, allowing it to provide reliable energy and a top-notch customer experience. SMUD also operates a retail outlet -- offering thermostats, light bulbs, water conservation tools and more -- that has generated $1 million in revenue in its first three months, a true testimony of the brand. Also on this episode, Devon Winthrop, AT&T Principal Architect, talks about how drones that utilize AI, machine learning and LTE are changing the way public utilities do business.
