Arkansas Picks a New CIO

A North Carolina woman is tapped for the state's top tech post.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Gov. Mike Huckabee announced last week that Carolyn Osborne, of Raleigh, N.C., has been named Arkansas' new CIO.

"Carolyn will fit right in with Arkansas' move towards e-government," Huckabee said. "She has a record of innovative ideas in the IT field."

Osborne worked for Carolina Power and Light Co. for 28 years. During that time, she rose from being a programmer to becoming CIO. She left the company to start GoBeyond LLC, a consulting business.

Last year, InformationWeek magazine named her one of the "Top 15 Innovators and Influencers to Watch in 2001." She received the 2002 "Women in Business Award" from the Triangle Business Journal.

She received her bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University. She is on the Meredith College Board of Advisors, the United Arts Council Board of Directors and a member of the North Carolina Electronics and Information Technology Association.

The CIO position was created by the state's Legislature through Act 1042 of 2001.
