GovTech Innovators: Simon Taylor, Commvault Leader and Big Data Expert

According to Taylor, state governments are analyzing their own data to better understand their own internal activities, which can help them answer FOIA requests.

Our latest GovTech Innovator is Simon Taylor, senior director of Information Access Management for Commvault -- a company that helps clients leverage data to gain value about their own internal activities and where their money goes.

Taylor spoke to us about how government agencies are storing data on-premise and in the cloud, and how they want to use that data to better understand their own government business.

But both government agencies and private-sector organizations struggle with soaring data volumes, and the term “big data” is being thrown around quite often these days. According to Taylor, one public-sector trend he’s seeing is with state governments analyzing their own data to better understand their own internal activities. This intelligence will also help them answer FOIA requests more easily.

Check out our video discussion with Taylor about big data and where it’s going in government.
