Mississippi Launches Redesigned Portal

JACKSON, Miss. -- Mississippi residents can now take advantage of the state's enhanced and fully redesigned Web portal.

The state's Department of Information Technology Services (ITS) worked with EzGov and IBM to create a centralized e-government infrastructure that brings the most requested government transactional services online.

Officials of the ITS said visitors to the portal will benefit from navigation that is built around the specific transaction they want to perform, rather than by the department or agency responsible for the service, leading to a quicker and more convenient online experience.

The Mississippi.gov project includes:

-- Development and implementation of the e-government infrastructure -- application software, interfaces and hardware -- necessary to support electronic transactions and secure operation of the portal.

-- The organizational redesign of the Mississippi Inter@ctive Enterprise Portal Web site.

-- Development and implementation of online applications, including online driver's license renewal and reinstatement, purchase of motor vehicle records, issuance of hunting and fishing licenses, boat registration renewal and Board of Architecture professional licensing.

-- A payment engine that integrates with the Statewide Automated Accounting System with the assistance of the Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration.

"The Department of Information Technology Services has worked diligently over the last year to make Mississippi one of the most progressive states in regards to e-government initiatives," said David Litchliter, the state's CIO and executive director of ITS. "We believe we have built a fully integrated e-government infrastructure that will be a lasting tool linking the government to the citizens, businesses and employees of Mississippi. And, by training our employees on the newest technologies throughout this development process, we have invested and secured the future growth and success of Mississippi.gov."
