The ed-tech company Class Technologies recently announced the launch of its A.I. Teaching Assistant, a ChatGPT-powered tool that can generate study guides and provide students with feedback on assignments.

According to a news release, the new tool’s beta version will be released later this year on the online learning platform Class, which is used by over 10 million users across more than 1,500 schools and institutions worldwide for synchronous online courses. It said educators using the Class platform will have the option to turn access to A.I. Teaching Assistant on or off for their courses, adding that the company will also work with educators to develop best practices and policies regarding the use of AI ed-tech tools moving forward as part of the roll out.

Class’ A.I. Teaching Assistant will enter an ed-tech market with several other similar AI tools designed to help instructors with lesson planning and providing student feedback at scale, like the K-12 homework feedback platform ASSISTments, Coursera’s AI-assisted course builder, and other AI tutor programs similar to Google’s released in 2021.

"We are inspired by the potential of AI to scale the influence of the great teachers who are dedicated to the outcomes of their students," Class co-founder and CEO Michael Chasen said in a public statement. "The Class A.I. Teaching Assistant is designed to enhance the learning experience by providing immediate access to valuable information, allowing students to remain focused and engaged in their Class sessions."
