MASSACHUSETTS
S.364: An Act to Establish a Special Commission on Innovative Technology-Enabled Teaching and Learning
Purpose: To establish a special commission on innovative technology-enabled teaching and learning, which would evaluate teacher preparedness for tech-enabled instruction and make recommendations to address inequities in student outcomes.
Status: Reported favorably by committee on July 11, 2022, and referred to the committee on Senate Ways and Means.
NEW MEXICO
S.B. 60: Photovoltaic Systems in New Public Schools
Purpose: To require that any new public school built after July 1, 2023, if it uses money from the state’s public school capital outlay fund, have a photovoltaic system to meet its energy needs.
Status: Referred to a Senate committee on Jan. 18, 2023.
NEW YORK
S.2484: Establishes a career and technical high school diploma for students completing a course of study for a career or trade
Purpose: To create a high school diploma for students who complete training in career, trade and technical skills in fields such as, but not limited to, technology, agriculture, business and marketing, family and consumer sciences, health occupations and industrial trades.
Status: Referred to the Senate education committee on Jan. 20, 2023.
PENNSYLVANIA
S.B.1337: An act amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, providing for student online personal data, imposing penalties, and making editorial changes
Purpose: To strengthen privacy protections for students who use education services technology, more specifically by prohibiting ed-tech providers from selling student data, using collected information to advertise to students and families, or creating student profiles for any noneducation purposes.
Status: Referred to Senate committee on Sept. 19, 2022.
WASHINGTON
S.B. 5102: Concerning school library information and technology programs
Purpose: To require school districts to adopt policies and procedures that ensure every student has access to school library information and technology programs.
Status: Referred to a Senate committee on Jan. 9, 2023.
