A Florida-based company that provides professional development for K-12 educators has a new set of online resources aimed specifically at working with students who have learning disabilities, trauma and behavioral issues.

Citing a 2019 report from the National Center for Learning Disabilities and Understood that revealed many teachers admitted to being unprepared for students with mild or moderate learning disabilities, Vector Solutions created its Inclusive Instruction and Interventions training course library, which launched Tuesday, the company said in a news release.

Notably since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, a major hurdle for teachers has been worsening student behavior, the release said. While some educators say compassion is the appropriate response, and companies like Panorama Education have created software tools to track behavior and positive reinforcement, Vector is offering an online library of more than 100 training courses on instructional strategies and interventions for specific situations and student needs.

There are also courses on legal requirements for educating students with disabilities, as well as new training mandates for trauma-informed practices that have popped up in some states, it said.

“Educators across the country are supporting an increasingly diverse student population with a wide range of learning needs, while still working to recover from the impacts of the pandemic,” said Rob Buelow, Vector Solutions’ head of product for education, in a public statement. “Yet many educators and staff members feel they aren’t getting the solid foundation needed to adequately address challenges like disruptive behavior, student trauma and specific disabilities.”

Accessible from any device with Internet connectivity and available through an online platform, Vector’s courses are divided into three separate bundles for specific job titles, including one for special education and general education staffers, and a bundle each for paraeducators and effective classroom instruction. Administrators can track participation and completion of the coursework, the release said.
