The Evolution and Revolution of Online Education

Colleges and universities have moved quickly and put elements of a course online to provide an emergency alternative to teaching face-to-face or testing. However, moving instruction online and creating engaging courses takes time, planning, and resources. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) courses present additional challenges when moving to an online format. This paper reviews the specific challenges for teaching online STEM courses and provides an overview of what to consider when transitioning these courses.
