FEMA Help for COVID-19 Still Available to Nonprofits, Govs

FEMA funding is available for expenses like virus testing; medical supplies or equipment; shelters or emergency care; food, water and ice provisions; emergency operations; and security for temporary facilities.

Oct. 20-- Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus said on Monday that 71 new cases of COVID-19 were reported over the weekend in the county, making for a total of 13,107 since the pandemic began in March. This is a downward trend after recent weeks have shown a spike in cases. Deaths reportedly stayed at 503.
 
Orange County's positive test rate for Saturday was 1.3 percent, and for Sunday was 1.2 percent, according to state-provided testing data.
 
The state's positive test rate for Saturday was about 1.1 percent and for Sunday was about 1.2 percent.
 
Sullivan County reported a total of 1,629 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of Monday, an increase by 8 over the weekend. Deaths stayed at 51.
 
Of the 227 COVID-19 tests conducted in Sullivan County over those two days, six came back positive for a rate of 2.6 percent, according to state data.
 
Nine people tested positive Saturday and four people on Sunday for COVID-19 in Ulster County, state data show. The county's daily positive test rate was less than 1 percent both days.
 
The state Department of Health's COVID-19 tracker has noted each positive case since the coronavirus pandemic started in March.
 
Sullivan County is reminding residents there is assistance for local governments and nonprofits in need of funding for expenses related to the coronavirus pandemic.
 
The Federal Emergency Management Agency funding is available to reimburse for expenses like virus testing; medical supplies or equipment; shelters or emergency care; food, water and ice provisions; emergency operations; and security for temporary facilities, for those who are eligible.
 
The state Office of Disaster Recovery will host two informative briefings, one on Wednesday and another Nov. 4, both at 1 p.m., to discuss eligibility for the program.
 
Pre-registration through the state is advised.
