Alert: ‘Ongoing Cyber Threats to U.S. Water and Wastewater Systems’

SCADA remains a potential threat vector for intrusions.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued an alert and an update back in October: “Ongoing Cyber Threats to U.S. Water and Wastewater Systems.”

The reality is that there isn’t any critical infrastructure that is totally locked down and secure from cyber attacks. The challenge for water systems is that there are thousands of very small water districts that provide water and perhaps wastewater services across the United States.

These districts don’t have sophisticated operations staff who have the background or experience when it comes to cyber attacks. It would be common for most to think that they are too small to become a target.

But, a target they can be!
