I recently heard a cybersecurity presentation that made the following point, which would run counter to my “normal thinking” about how to respond.
The tip is, when your government gets hacked and all systems are “out of operation,” go and assist your information technology (IT) staff at their offices! Don’t make them come out to your Emergency Operations Center (EOC). They need all the staff they have working the issue and they need your response expertise “on site” where they are working. We have skills they don’t have and can be of great assistance in the response.
This was done for a major American city that was hacked and it was of tremendous help to the IT department working to get the government back up and operating.
