Federal Land Ownership by State Visualized

Some states have significant federal lands.

One of the things that can complicate disaster response for states and local communities is federal land ownership. A number of states have significant federal land ownership and management extending from national parks to even the defense department.

See this visual depiction of that ownership: “Federal Land Ownership Stats In The US, Visualized.”

As you can see, federal lands are most prominent in the West, Southwest and Southeast. Understanding roles and responsibilities before a disaster is key.
