FEMA Trying New Disaster Readiness Approaches

What we have done in the past has not been that effective, so why not try something new?

It is good to see the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) trying out new programs and approaches to get our nation, governments, businesses and families prepared for disasters. Check out FEMA Pursuing Private Sector Partnerships for Nation’s Preparedness.

While it is not "politically correct" to mention the dearly departed, but this is the most recent confirmed FEMA administrator Brock Long's vision that they are executing on.

Getting a nation lined up and headed in a different direction is never easy. This is why whipsaw changes are rarely effective as one administration replaces another and launches new programs while killing others. In this case, I see the new ideas as being superior. Hopefully they will stick and not be thrown out with the bath water when the next administration arrives and wants to put their fingerprints on what is being done.

As I wrote recently, if I had to choose between a family having a three-day disaster kit or insurance on their home, I'd pick insurance since that will give them a chance to have an economic future not destroyed by a disaster.

My advice to FEMA would be to stay on the course and azimuth that has been set by Brock Long.
