NIST to Study Impacts of Hurricane Maria to Puerto Rico's Infrastructure

Interdependencies must be understood.

See announcement below:

"The U.S. Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced today that it will study the impacts of Hurricane Maria’s September 2017 strike on Puerto Rico, focusing specifically on the performance of critical buildings and their dependence on distributed infrastructure (such as electricity and water), as well as emergency communications and the public’s response to those communications." You can read the full news release at, NIST Launches Study of Hurricane Maria’s Impact on Puerto Rico.

While they use the term "dependencies" I'd use the term "interdependencies" to describe the linkages between  infrastructures like power, water and communications. In today's 21st century, electrical power makes almost everything run, but in turn our power grid needs communications to control their systems, and water is also important.

I think they will find a great deal of linkages between those big three and others.
