We have met the enemy and it is us — is an appropriate quote. See this very interesting commentary on what could be done to improve our disaster recovery process,
Digital Dialog: Simplifying and Speeding the Recovery Process.
There are different ideas from a variety of experts who deal with different aspects of the disaster recovery process, especially from an Individual Assistance (IA) perspective. Common in my reading are things like:
- Simplify
- Federal Agency Coordination
- Use of technology
- Integration of efforts
- Avoiding duplication
- Capturing data "one time"
- Determining if an equity goal is being achieved
- Our "insane system" that does not appear to be getting better
On that positive note — don't hold your breath waiting for federal agencies to achieve a more coordinated approach to those aspects of disaster recovery under their individual agency control.
