Remembering Mary Ann Hale

You likely don't know her contributions to emergency management.

Mary Ann Hale passed away recently. She was a member of our emergency management community. She will not be remembered for her emergency management knowledge, the plans she wrote, the exercises she conducted or trainings that she organized.

What she is being remembered as is a wonderful person, a receptionist and administrative assistant at the King County Office of Emergency Management (OEM). She served there when I was the director of OEM.

What Mary Ann had was a servant's heart. Her goal was to help people with whatever they needed to be successful once they entered the building. No task was too small, and her efforts were always done with a smile and a gracious manner.

We should all have the characteristics that Mary Ann exhibited in all that we do. In the bigger world she played a small part, and for those who knew her, she holds a special place in our memories.

Godspeed Mary Ann. Maybe St. Peter needs a receptionist at the Pearly Gates!
