Shortest Emergency Management Director Tenure Ever!

Like a meteor, gone in a flash.

We can only wonder what the issue(s) might have been, that caused an emergency management director to be fired after only being hired on April 22. Generally, when something like this happens, it ends up being a personal indiscretion that happens almost immediately, or perhaps someone comes in like a bull in a china shop. Or, one could have lied on their job application?

On the bull in a china shop, front I personally knew a three-star general who was an Army Corps commander. He came in and tried tactics that worked for him when he was ordering colonels around, but when he did the same with two-star divisional commanders, they evidently made it clear to his superiors what was going on — and he was then gone in a flash.

The linked article is not very revealing, but it is another chapter, albeit a short one, in the history book for that emergency management program for Brown County, Kan. County terminates emergency management director.

Eric Holdeman is a contributing writer for Emergency Management magazine and is the former director of the King County, Wash., Office of Emergency Management.
