I’ve got one quote for you, attributed to Napoleon: “The moral is to the physical, as three is to one.”
The Afghanistan army has the men, 300,000 on paper anyway, the equipment and arms needed to fight, and there has been years and years of training these forces. So, why are they disappearing, surrendering, etc.?
My answer is that there is a lack of will to fight by these people. Without that, all the arms and equipment mean nothing. A similar thing happened in Iraq — if you recall, there was an attack by ISIS that had the Iraq army also melting away. I remember a story back then about how Iraq soldiers shared that they observed American officers fighting side by side with their soldiers, but you never saw that with their own officers.
There will be no Alamo in this final chapter of America in Afghanistan. You might recall that the Texans and others at the Alamo were given the opportunity to leave, and they knew no help was coming, yet they fought on.
