Government Technology’s passion is helping spread best practices and spurring innovation in the public sector. The Georgia Digital Government Summit is designed to do just that. The summit has an advisory board that gathers public sector and private sector leaders to create an agenda designed to make that passion relevant and actionable to the state and local government organizations attending the summit. Participants tell us they use the inspirational keynotes, leadership discussions, networking breaks, and timely topics discussed in the numerous breakout sessions to help advance the goals of their organizations and their own career paths.
Topics Include:
Technology is transforming our world at a faster pace than ever before. We see its profound impact not only in the way that major industries do business, but also in the way government does business. The Georgia Digital Government Summit offers us a timely opportunity to consider ways to take advantage of the benefits technology offers. State agencies and local governments alike can find value in keynote presentations, breakout sessions and vendor exhibits, and it’s a great forum for strengthening relationships and collaboration between state and local agencies. The Summit is targeted to both IT staff and business leaders, with a substantive agenda aimed at exploring how technology can support business objectives. I hope you’ll plan to attend the Summit – you’ll find it well worth your time.

General Session – Georgia’s New Cyber Center: A One-of-a-kind Training GroundCybersecurity is arguably the most serious challenge we face, and Georgia is tackling it from all angles. Earlier this year, Governor Deal announced the investment of $60 million in a world-class cyber training facility, launching a statewide effort to develop the workforce and infrastructure needed to protect Georgia from cyberthreats. In less than a year, the Hull McKnight Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center is scheduled to open in Augusta and will include one-of-a-kind training, testing and development opportunities. In this session, a panel of founding partners will discuss the Center from conception to completion and how state and local governments in Georgia can leverage a whole new set of resources. Concurrent SessionsTurning Data into Actionable KnowledgeBig Data is pushing organizations to reinvent how they leverage and interpret information. If results aren’t well-portrayed and made readily available (not just internally but externally), the vast potential of Big Analytics remains largely untapped. It’s all about presentation and visualization. This session looks at creative ways to leverage data and depict information to drive smarter decisions, faster responses and better service. Michele Pearman, GIS Manager and Cityworks Project Manager, Department of Information Technology, City of Augusta (@AugustaGAgis) Kurt Schmitz, Ph.D., Clinical Assistant Professor, Computer Information Systems, J. Mack Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University Optimizing the Workforce and Workplace of TomorrowFor years, government has widely reported the onset of the “silver tsunami.” The looming retirement wave is driving the need to accelerate innovative recruitment and retention practices in government at all levels, particularly in IT. Questions about mobility, flexibility, collaboration tools and collaborative spaces are becoming common during the interview process. Yet government is not always prepared to offer competitive answers in today’s legacy environment. This session offers a look at what some innovative organizations are doing to scrap outmoded practices, address modernization and embrace new paradigms. Steven Ferguson, Chief Information Officer, Technical College System of Georgia Robert Zapotocky, Manager, IP Application Strategy, Global Public Sector, Government & Education, AT&T The Road to Intelligent CommunitiesGeorgia is on a roll! Several communities from the region are widely recognized as smart communities and the results are paying off big. This inspiring session features thought-leaders whose desire to embrace technology and break new ground is unsurpassed.
