On Jan. 13, the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) issued its final request for proposals (RFP) for help in building a nationwide public safety network. The milestone caps years of planning, 13 requests for information, months of meetings with state partners, and several executive shuffles.

"We have developed this RFP in an open forum to create a ‘first of its kind’ public-private partnership for the network," FirstNet CEO Mike Poth said in a press release. "As we move into the next phase of the process, we look forward to receiving competitive offerings to deliver the best possible network for public safety."

Questions are due Feb. 12, capability statements are due March 17, and responses to the RFP are due April 29. FirstNet is scheduled to award the contract late this year.

At 1 p.m. EST on Jan. 15, FirstNet will stream an RFP review presentation.
