Instagram Launches Live Video Feature

Live video streaming will soon be a feature available to all Instagram users.

After much to-do about Facebook’s foray into the live streaming video realm earlier this year, Instagram's announcement of a similar feature should come as no surprise.

The company announced Nov. 21 that it has begun rolling out a new live video feature that will allow users to shoot and post videos directly to their Instagram Stories from their mobile application.

As with the Facebook video tool, viewers can post comments in real time and like. These notifications can be turned off by the presenter.

Facebook acquired Instagram in April 2012 for $1 billion and has consistently used the social media platform to compete with the likes of Snapchat with considerable success.

In addition to the live video feature, users of the platform’s Instagram Direct messaging tool can now send disappearing photos and videos. The company cites as many as 300 million direct messaging users.
