To access the platform, residents can create an online account at https://txt.texas.gov/.
Once an account is created, users can manage their government-issued licenses and registrations, receive proactive reminders about different items and complete transactions.
“The idea for Texas by Texas came from Texans,” said DIR Executive Director and the state’s Chief Information Officer Amanda Crawford.
“Texans want to spend more time doing the things they want to do," Crawford said. “They also want to spend less time trying to navigate the web that government can be and trying to figure out which office you have to go to [and] which website you have to go to.”
As a result, the application was created to serve as a one-stop shop for users to access an array of government services.
Currently, users can renew or replace their driver’s license or state ID, renew vehicle registrations and renew a massage therapist or massage instructor license.
However, DIR expects to add more constituent-facing state agency services to the platform in the near future.
“Public safety is always our top priority,” said Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw in the release. “As a department, we must ensure important state documents, like driver licenses and identification cards, are accurate; this is a key component to public safety.”
Whitney Brewster, the state’s executive director of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, echoed similar sentiments saying, “Drivers can spend more time exploring our great state and less time waiting in line to renew their vehicle registration.”
TxT is currently available online and can be accessed from browsers such as Google, Edge or Safari on any laptop, tablet or smartphone. The application is also available to download in the Apple store.
