About 4,500 employees at the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) will have their work moved to Google Apps for Government, which will enable NARA employees to collaborate not only with one another, but also with outside agenices by using cloud email, document sharing and other cloud-based tools.
The five-year, $7.2 million contract was awarded to Unisys, which recently completed transitioning 5,000 employees to Google Apps for Government at the Department of Energy's Idaho National Laboratory, and 25,000 employees at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Last year, 17,000 employees at the U.S. General Services Administration also transitioned to the cloud-based Google tools suite.
“We look forward to helping the National Archives cut costs and become more efficient as its employees perform their important and high-profile mission,” said Venkatapathi Puvvada, group vice president of civilian agencies at Unisys Federal Systems.
