Reenie Askew takes over as CIO of Charlotte, N.C., in March from Jeff Stovall, who stepped down in September after more than a decade in the role. Askew has been serving as deputy CIO of Houston for five years.

The city of Charlotte, N.C., has named Reenie Askew its next chief information officer.

Formerly the deputy CIO and deputy director of enterprise application services for the city of Houston for more than five years, Askew has also put in more than 20 years at Sysco Corp. as senior director of business technology and two years as a senior consultant at Reka & Associates in Houston, according to her LinkedIn profile. The city of Houston’s website describes her as “a business technology leader with over 20 years of experience leading teams through technology and business process change initiatives.”

She holds a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from the University of Pittsburgh.

Askew will take over Charlotte’s IT department from Jeff Stovall, who led it for more than 10 years before stepping down in September to take a job as chief operating officer of health-care payment software company PMMC. In his decade as CIO, Stovall oversaw a five-year update of the city’s public safety communications network, a new technology master-planning process and the deployment of smart-city infrastructure such as solar-powered trash bins and sensor-equipped public benches.

An assistant in Askew’s new office confirmed that Askew is scheduled to start work March 11. The city is not making her available for interviews until then.
