Embracing the less traditional is part of how to attract the next generation of public servants.
North Carolina's Innovation Center (iCenter) is at the heart of providing agencies a place to test new ideas, but it is also charged with looking differently at how to attract new talent.
As iCenter Director Deante' Tyler explained, sometimes attracting new blood to the state's workforce requires stepping outside of the traditional government stereotypes and embracing new ideas and ways of working.
"It's a different mindset," he said. "It's a change, but one of the ways to suggest that change or to make sure that change is adopted is making strides that are digestable, so not trying to do everything overnight."
As for whether there is resistance to these new ideas, Tyler said creating an environment where change happens gradually is essential to success.
