After just a little over a year with the department, Tyrone Grandison announced he's moving on to new things.
The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) may soon have an opening for a new data scientist.
Tyrone Grandison, deputy chief data officer of the department's Commerce Leadership team, announced in a Medium post last month that Aug. 5 will be his last day with the department.
During his 14 months with the DOC, Grandison assisted on a wide range of projects: he helped launch the Commerce Data Service, a startup designed to help the 12 DOC bureaus to build projects faster; advocated for more modern technology practices in government; introduced agile development; and changed office culture.
The Jamaica-born Ph.D. hasn't announced where he's headed next, but wrote that he has "exciting news" that he will reveal in September. The DOC has not yet named a replacement for Grandison, and did not respond to requests for comment by press time.
