The Hennepin County, Minn., Board of Commissioners appointed Glen Gilbertson as the county’s new chief information officer.

Gilbertson succeeds Jerry Driessen, who served as CIO for about four years before his departure to the city of San Jose, Calif., where he became assistant CIO in March. According to a board action request, Gilbertson was officially appointed to that role himself on March 31.

Gilbertson was the acting CIO from December 2018 until his appointment became effective, the action request states. He previously served as the city’s IT chief technology officer and oversaw IT Operations and Enterprise Development. He coordinated multiple jurisdictions and the Department of Homeland Security to address cybersecurity and disaster recovery concerns surrounding Super Bowl LII, according to the board action request.

“As the acting CIO, Mr. Gilbertson has demonstrated his ability to lead and seamlessly stabilize the IT department,” the request states. “In his 23 plus years with Hennepin County, Mr. Gilbertson has demonstrated positive leadership skills, uncompromising integrity and extensive knowledge to position him well as the new Chief Information Officer.”
