Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker Names Ron Guerrier as CIO

Guerrier has spent more than two decades managing IT in the private sector, most recently working for Express Scripts, one of the nation’s largest pharmaceutical benefit management companies.

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has appointed Ron Guerrier, a veteran of the private sector with more than two decades of experience managing IT for large companies, as his state’s next CIO.

The state announced the appointment Monday with a press release, noting that Guerrier “has served as chief information officer for multi-billion-dollar companies since 2012.” Most recently, Guerrier was CIO for Express Scripts, a Fortune 100 company in the pharmaceutical benefit management space. Before that, he held the same position for Farmers Insurance Group. His resume also includes a stint with Toyota North America.

Guerrier’s academic background includes a Master of Science in management from North Park University and a Bachelor of Science in finance from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. In addition, Guerrier has various accreditations from the University of Chicago; the University of California, Berkeley; Boston University; and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The CIO position has undergone much turnover dating back to Hardik Bhatt’s exit in September of 2017. Bhatt’s replacement, Kirk Lonbom, retired in December following a 38-year career in public service. Finally, acting CIO Jack King departed in February, heading back to the private sector and noting that this sort of thing was fairly standard when a new governor was elected.
