McDermitt stepped down in January, according to a spokesperson for the commonwealth. And a spokesperson for iRobot, the Massachusetts-based company that makes the Roomba, confirmed that McDermitt joined the company as director of enterprise information security.
Curtis Wood, secretary of the Executive Office of Technology Services and Security, is serving as CIO, but the commonwealth spokesperson did not respond to requests to clarify whether he is filling the role in an interim capacity or if the government is searching for a permanent replacement.
McDermitt, who was CIO for about four years, oversaw consolidation and cybersecurity efforts for the commonwealth during his time there. The Center for Digital Government* gave Massachusetts a B grade in 2016 and 2018 on its Digital States Survey.
Wood was appointed to the technology office in 2018 after serving for years in the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security as undersecretary of forensic science and technology.
