Federal GSA Administrator Lurita Doan yesterday announced Casey Coleman will serve as the acting CIO for the agency. Coleman has been serving as the first CIO of the new Federal Acquisition Service (FAS) organization when it was created in October of 2006. Previously, she served for two years as the CIO for the GSA Federal Technology Service and also headed the GSA Office of Citizen Services from 2002-2004.

"Casey Coleman has been a key player in the transformational change at the Federal Acquisition Service and she brings an incredible set of IT skills and management talents to this position," said Doan. "Her extensive experience in GSA senior management and successful projects makes her the right person for this critical position."

Coleman is involved with the Federal IT community and is a board member of the Government Information Technology Executive Council. Coleman also championed a business process redesign of the Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) procurement process, with new supporting technology, reducing process time from over 100 days to less than 20 days. She was also named a 2007 recipient of Federal Computer Week's "Fed 100" award. Coleman is a native Texan with a bachelor's degree in computer science from Texas A&M University and a master's degree in business administration and finance from the University of Texas at Arlington. She will be the first woman to serve as GSA CIO.

"I am very happy for Casey. She is an outstanding leader and will do a great job at the level of GSA CIO," FAS Commissioner Jim Williams said.

Coleman is replacing Mike Carleton, who is leaving GSA to join the Department of Health and Human Services as their Chief Information Officer and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Information Technology. Both positions are within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Resources and Technology.
