Oklahoma Keeps an Eye on Telecoms

Governor vetoes bill to loosen oversight

OKLAHOMA CITY, Ok -- Governor Brad Henry vetoed a bill that would have reduced state oversight of telephone companies in Oklahoma.

HB 1335 would have changed the regulatory classifications of telephone companies, allowing eligible telecommunications firms to operate without significant oversight from state regulators.

"I don't think the legislation was in the best interest of consumers. Ratepayers need some kind of regulatory body providing oversight and representing their interests in the ratemaking process," said Gov. Henry.
