Which state could be the first to have Emoji license plates?

Answer: Vermont.

Legislation currently under consideration in the Vermont House of Representatives would, if passed, make the state the first in the U.S. to allow drivers to customize their license plates with Emoji.

But before Vermonters go getting too excited, they should know that their choices would be pretty limited. Drivers would get to choose one of six Emojis selected by the state. The Emoji would appear in addition to the letters and numbers chosen by the drivers or the state, so it wouldn’t be a part of the license plate number, just a personalization on the side. The state also has not revealed how much it would charge for the Emoji plates.

While this would be the first case of Emoji license plates in the U.S., it is not the first in the world. Queensland, Australia, implemented a similar law last year.
