Where are Bird electric scooters going next?

The first lucky (or unlucky, depending on your point of view) city to receive the dockless scooters will be Paris. Bird announced Wednesday the launch of a one-year pilot with 100 scooters in the French city of 2 million-plus people, TechCrunch reports. Rentals will cost €1 at the start and then €0.15 for each minute of use. These match the prices for Bird’s competitor Lime, which has been operating its scooters in Paris since June.

The company stated that while it has not established an official partnership with the city, officials are aware of Bird’s plans.

Dockless scooters have been controversial here in the U.S., where their quick and often unregulated deployment has left city officials scrambling to get a handle on them. Also, members of the public have expressed concern over unsafe practices such as riding without a helmet or on highways.
