What can Apple’s newest smartwatch do if you fall down?

Answer: Call for help.

On Wednesday, the Cupertino-based tech company unveiled a series of new products, one of which was the newest version of its popular wearable, the Apple Watch. Among the new features encased in the sleek new design is something that works a lot like the well-known Life Alert system.

An improved accelerometer and gyroscope in the watch mean that it can detect when the user has taken a fall, and the watch will ask if they need help. If the wearer remains inactive and doesn’t respond, the watch will contact emergency services as well as their emergency contacts.

Other health features include improved heart rate monitoring and the ability to perform an electrocardiogram (ECG), which New Atlas reports will be enabled later in the year for U.S. customers.
