In its latest effort to make its services overly convenient, Amazon has developed a system called Amazon Key that will allow couriers to open your front door in order to deliver your packages.

Available only to Prime members, the system involves a smart lock and a camera inside the home. When the courier arrives, they scan the barcode on the package, and Amazon’s cloud receives a request for access. Once granted, the smart lock unlocks the door and the connected camera begins recording. After the courier leaves the package and relocks the door, you’ll receive a delivery message that includes the video, so you can watch the handoff and ensure there was no nefarious activity.

While designed for delivery, Amazon Key has the potential to double as a device for home security, because the camera includes night vision and two-way audio capabilities. And it could also facilitate a variety of other uses, such as allowing access for guests, cleaning services, or dog walkers.
