Currently the subject of a Kickstarter campaign, the Sign Language Translation Glove is exactly what its name suggests — a glove that can translate sign language. Developed by Wulala Technology Company in China, the glove pairs with a smartphone and uses a companion app to translate what the wearer signs into both text and synthetic speech.

The glove contains two-way bending sensors in each finger, as well as an inertial measurement unit in the palm. Together, they track the positions of the fingers in addition to the movement and position of the glove. The person that the wearer is conversing with can see and hear the translation on a smartphone and then speak their response. The app will transcribe it and also sign the message with a digital avatar hand.

The glove is currently in use in China, and the company is working on adding other spoken and signed languages.
