Can Texans really bake cookies in their cars?

As Texas urban legend has it, the summers there are hot enough to bake cookies in a car. Well, a pair of intrepid Houston Chronicle reporters decided to put that to the test on a toasty 97 degree Fahrenheit day.

What they found was that pre-made cookie dough actually "baked" after sitting on a dashboard for roughly two hours. The cookies were reportedly done and crispy in certain areas, though we have doubts about whether or not they would win a baking contest.
