Why would you want a robot to follow you everywhere?

Piaggio Fast Forward is hoping to compete with first-mile, last-mile transportation solutions like e-scooters while also encouraging people to walk instead. That’s why it created gita, a small two-wheeled robot that acts like a modern-day pack mule. All you have to do is put your things inside it and walk away, and the robot will follow you.

Gita has cameras on its front that keep track of its owner’s legs as they walk, even when other people walk in between them. This way, it doesn’t have to use location tracking, and it doesn’t store any image or video footage from its cameras.

The robot is 22 inches tall and can carry up to 40 pounds. Also, gita only operates on hard surfaces like sidewalks and cannot climb stairs. It has a top speed of 6 miles per hour and can operate for four hours before needing to recharge. The company hopes that if people don’t have to worry about lugging around all of their belongings, they will be more likely to walk those first and last parts of their trip instead of hopping on a scooter or bike.
