Meta really wants to get into the virtual currency game. After it finally shuttered its troubled cryptocurrency Diem earlier this year, we’re now hearing that the company is exploring introducing a virtual currency in the metaverse.

While we don’t yet know what this currency’s official name might be, if this currency does indeed come to fruition, it will most likely be unofficially known by the nickname that Meta employees have already given it: Zuck Bucks.

These Zuck Bucks would reportedly not be like cryptocurrency. Instead, they would work more like in-app tokens across Meta’s platforms. For example, they could be received as rewards for contributions on Facebook or for Instagram creators. “As a company, we are focused on building for the metaverse and that includes what payments and financial services might look like,” said a spokesperson for Meta.
