The Big Apple’s next mayor wants to make the city “the center of the cryptocurrency industry.” So much so that he wants to get paid with it.

In a tweet on Thursday, Adams announced that he would be taking his first three paychecks as mayor in the popular cryptocurrency bitcoin. This of course immediately raised speculations as to how, logistically, that would even be possible, since the city of New York currently only has the ability to pay people with U.S. dollars. Gizmodo guessed that someone from the city would have head over to a cryptocurrency service like Coinbase or Binance to buy the bitcoin and then transfer it to Adams.

And Adams isn’t even the first mayor to want to get paid with cryptocurrency, just the first mayor-elect. Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, long a proponent of bringing cryptocurrency to government, announced Tuesday, also on Twitter, that he would be taking his next paycheck in bitcoin.
